Can this relationship work?

I really love my boyfriend and he loves me to, but we barely see each other that much. We go to different schools and live about 45 minutes apart. Can this relationship work? Some people tell me it won't work out. What do you think? Advice
Long distance relationships are always tough. They can succeed, but it will take more effort than if you were dating someone in your own town. You need to pay more attention to how much you contact each other, the little things like romantic letters to each other, the importance that you put on the communication between you two.
