Getting Closer to an Old Friend

Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Male
I am a sophomore in high school and I have known a girl that I went to grade school with and that I am pretty good friends with. I have liked her for a while but we haven't really seen each other in a while. I still talk to her occasionaly online. How can I move from good friends to possibly romance, starting from talking online and working my way up. I still don't think we are close enough for me to take her out or to call her. I feel awkward about it. Should I tell her I really like her or should I give it time? Please help. Thanks!!!

I've got a whole how-to on going from friend to boyfriend-girlfriend. And you're right, it's a nice gentle progression to ease her into it -

so start by talking to her more often on line. Get her used to you being around and caring about her. Then send her email messages, and then offer to call her sometimes. The closer you get, the easier it will get.
