I thought I was over my ex

Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Female
I thought I was over my ex. He broke up with me about a year ago because he said he wasn't in love with me anymore. We still remained friends and I thought I had moved on. This guy was my first real relationship, we were engaged and I gave myself to him for the first time. I was really in love. Now, I found out that he has a new girlfriend. I thought it would be easy to handle it because I really thought I was over this. But it hurts, the thought of him being with someone else is like the most painful event for me. I just don't know to get over this and let it go. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Love sucks sometimes, doesn't it.

Yes, I can understand completely why you are upset that your ex has found someone new. Yes of course it hurts. And it's tough to get over. Unfortunately there's no silver bullet cure to it, it just takes time. What works best is if you are in a relationship yourself. Find someone else to focus on and your boyfriend will slip into the back of your mind. Easier said than done, I know. I got a divorce after 11 years of marriage and two months later my ex- was dating someone new. I was the one who asked for the divorce, but I still felt really hurt when he found someone to replace me. So I know what you're going through.

I wish you the best!
