He's Leaving for College - Will We Break Up?

Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Female
My boyfriend and I have been together since November, and in about one month, he will be leaving for college about 5 hours away, while I will have one more year left in highschool here in our hometown. This is hurting me very badly...but I am trying to be happy for him, too. Right now, we are spending as much time together as we can and just enjoying what we have left. I feel like he is going to want to break up before he goes, but I know deep down that isn't what I want. I've never cared about anyone like this, and it's really painful. I hate knowing that we have a deadline to be broken up by...and I hate knowing when I'm going to have to say goodbye. It's tough! Please please help me know what I should do!

RomanceClass.com Advice
The cornerstone of any relationship is honesty and trust. You should be able to talk to him about anything. Why are you hiding with this secret fear? Sit down and TALK to him. Tell him right out that you do not want to break up when he leaves. That you are willing to date him long distance, and explain to him exactly of your ideas about how it would work. Tons of people date long distance! Many of them can make it work - and so can you, if you both are willing to give it a try.
