I Want my Girlfriend to Lie

Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Male
i want to ask this girl to the prom, which i already did, but she says she can't go to the prom because her parent wont let her go. She really wants to go. I gonna try to tell her to tell her parent that she has to work till midnight and her sister is going to pick her up but instead i ll meet her over there and well hit to the prom together...

Is this right or is this wrong? why? and what should i do because prom is just a couple of days down the road?

NO NO NO - if you become the force of lying and betrayal in her life then SHE will not trust you, her sister will not trust you, her parents will never trust you!! Why in the world would you push someone you care for into lying?? What happens when her parents forbid her from ever seeing you again because you are now a proven betrayer? How could they trust her in your hands again?

Her parents won't let her go. OK, start there. Is this HER prom? If so, then what is their concern? Sit down with her and them and talk about it. Obviously the prom will have chaperones. They can drive you two there and back. There must be some compromise. If you guys just scream and yell and stamp your feet and plot lies then you are proving to the parents that they were right in not trusting you and they won't ever trust you in the future either.

If this is YOUR prom and she really is too young to be going, then make your own special prom at her home!! Show up with flowers, play some music, watch a movie together. Sometimes the memories made by nights like that are the ones you remember until you're 90 years old as the very best of your lives ...
