Asking Out a Girl I Don't Talk To

i really like this girl in my school but i'm not sure she likes or even notices me. i'm pretty shy and she is also when she isn't with her friends. i get mixed messages all the time, like she sometimes glances at me when i'm next to her or nearby. she is usually with a group of friends because she is so popular. Plus i don't even know if she is going out with anyone but i know some of my friends like her too. i feel to shy to talk to her and think i'm going to get rejected if i ask her out.

i'm in a total disaster what should i do? thanx for your time.
