He's Acting Stand-Offish

two year ago i met this boy and we became friend [i also befriended his best friend] we all got along. Then the next year he transfered schools :[

then this year he came back in the first few weeks of school. he is a bit shy so i told him he should come to the dance that friday. He came. we all danced and had a good time. then at the end of the dance he moved towards me to give me a hug [for the first time ever] and i kinda side hugged him because i was all sweaty.

the next week we saw each other and he kinda stayed away from me. i think he might be mad cause i side hugged him

I wouldn't read too much into one action. There could be a wealth of reasons that he is acting shy now. Maybe he worries that he was too forward at the dance and now he's nervous about it. Show him that you still like him and want to be friends. Talk with him. Flirt with him. He'll realize you are interested and warm up again.
