what does i want a relationship but not now mean?

a guy asked me out a few weeks ago. there was no doubt that he liked me.i know that he talked about me to all of his peers and just no doubt he really liked me. then he started pulling away saying that he divorced this time a year ago and he just wanted to be alone during this time. they were married for 3 years. this occured a week ago and i have done nothing to contact him. and he has not contacted me either. i did seem needy for a few days when he started pulling way. im worried i was rushing into a relationship with him and turned him off. does he want to be with me or did he realise im not what hes looking for and hes politely backing out?
