Did I do the correct thing?
Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Male
I just broke up with my girlfriend who I dated for about a year. Things were very smooth for a long time. After a while we moved in together because we were always with each other. Then she started becoming insanely jealous. She would start yelling at me on the street when some girl looked at me or if we were at a concert she would yell at me to stop flirting with the girl next to me when I am doing nothing of the sort. I still love her a lot but her jealous issue really got to me. We talked about it and she promised she would change and she did not. So I started making her feel better about her self and look away when a girl walked by us or when there was nudity on a movie (which she still yelled at me for looking away because she says it turns me on). No matter what I did and all the advice I got to help her did not work. We got in a huge fight and I started getting violent with myself and took the next available bus to my parents house to get myself together. She still found reasons to get jealous and I broke it off with her because I could not take it anymore. Now she won't stop calling and texting me wanting me to come back and she promises she will change. I have been ignoring all of her responses. I still love her and care for her and it hurts me to know what she is going through. Should I get back with her or should I just move on?
Just move on.
She has a very serious case of jealousy and unless she gets therapy, it is unlikely she will change.
You shouldn't anticipate her doing that or expect the therapy to work. It would take a long time in any case.
You will miss her for a while but soon you will be happier.
Good luck! George
