My boyfriend insults me

Visitor's Question from a 31-40 year old Female
My boyfriend and I have been together a little over 2 years. We bought a place in dec 2006 and we're very happy. Problem is, is he drinks and smokes alot and would like to quit but not really. He's always up to going out with friends and lately I've noticed that he insults me - cuts me up in front of others. He behaves like such a snob too. He once told me that I play the fool all the time so I should be treated like one. I've tried to demand respect and I've tried to talk to him but he walks away, rolls his eyes or gets more angry with me to the point where he insults me again.
THere are days when we're good and in love and apologizes for everything. He also says he wants me in his life but he's apprehensive about marriage. He never tells me how he feels about us and the only reason I know anything is cos I ask him first. He never opens up to me. I just don't know what to believe. I really feel like he doesn't like me as a person and that I annoy him. I'm nervous to say anything in front of him and our friends cos I feel like he'll cut me up again or shoot me down for saying stupid things. I'm constantly on edge - I've tried to talk to him and he tells me that once I stop saying stupid things and acting like a child/fool, then he'll stop with the remarks. How does someone who says they love you do those things? My dad does that and I couldn't wait to run out of the house but now I'm right back into it. I don't feel like a partner or a friend - I'm a doormat. I just want to know why?

RomanceClass.com Advice
People are often attracted to those who resemble their parents.

So that may be a reason you are attracted to this guy.

He is definitely no good for you. He is disrespectful, generally unloving, uncaring, uncommunicative, rude and demeaning. He is also mean.

Why you would want to stay with him is beyond me. Find someone new!

Good luck! George
