He goes from friendly to cold! Help!
Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Female
I sit next to this guy in English, lets call him Blaine. Ok, so sometimes, Blaine will say random things to me, like, "I like doing these vocab tests" or "What book did you choose to read" as if he is trying to talk to me or get my attention, but when I go to talk back to him, he gives me one word answers or doesn't answer me at all. It seems like his is giving me signals that he likes me, but then he shuts off! Could he like me or is he just making friendly conversation?

It sounds like he likes you but is very shy.
He is brave enough to say something to you but too shy to think of answers to your replies.
You probably could get him to laugh if you said to him "Oh you won't answer, eh. Guess I'll have to beat it out of you." Then pretend to hit him.
But if he laughs too loud you might get separated.
Maybe say it to him after class.
A good thing to do in general is to work with him slowly to help him get over his shyness.
