How to tell?

i am a girl and i have fallen in love with one of my best friends (who also happens to be a girl). i've always considered myself to be staraight, until now, but I find myself thinking about her all the time. as far as i can tell, she is straight, as well, but lately she seems to have similar feeling about me, but i can't tell. she kisses me on the cheek, sits on my lap, and always tells me how "cute" i am etc. etc. but she usually only acts like that when we're hanging out with a group. when it's just the two of us, she's alot more subtle and it confuses the hell out of me...how do i figure out how she really feels about me without actually asking her?

Instead of asking her direclty, ask her how she feels about lesbianism in general. You might be able to tell by her answer how she feels. Or it may lead to a conversation ending with you two.

After that you could tell her that you have been developing feelings toward her and ask how she feels about it. It will be a lot easier on her to reply to what you say rather than to have to a direct question.
