Unique coincidence or what?

Hi,
This might be an original situation i have over here.

A certain guy, and myself noticed each other on an online dating site, and we also noticed each other in the same church every sunday. According to his profile he is very shy.
We have introduced ourselves over the site and expressed interest, and I pointed out that we go to the same church. Knowing this, he asked me to hang out and i said yes to that.
On saturday, over email , he asked if I wanted to just come by after church, and I agreed. Well, the next day (sunday) he didn't show up at church...and I was very confused. Maybe his invite meant any random sunday, who knows.
But he never emailed or called to say anything about it. I was actually so nervous about meeting him, that I almost didnt' wanna go, but i did.
I guess I'm curious about this odd behavior? And how to go about a situation like this one?

He probably chickened out because of his shyness.

Write him an email saying you were disappointed when he didn't show up because you were looking forward to hanging out with him.
