My ultimate concern is whether it's ok to marry her
Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Male
I have been dating my girlfirend for over one year now. I think that I love her and want to marry her, but when I think about it, I get uneasy and anxious about it. She's always been sure she wants to marry me, so she is in essence waiting for me. We've taken a few breaks along the way and when we do, I miss her a lot. It's hard for me to picture life without her, so I told her that I want to marry her. Ever since I told her that, I am wondering if this if she really is the right one for me. I guess my ultimate concern is whether its ok to marry her and I'm just getting the jitters or if I really should break things off.
You need to think very, very hard about whether you are ready for marriage.
It's better to break off a wedding than to enter a mistaken marriage.
You use several words that are "flags" indicating you really might not be ready: "uneasy," "anxious," "breaks," "wondering," "is she the right one for me," "is it ok to marry her," "jitters," "break it off."
As conflicted as you are, you might want to consult a psychotherapist or minister to help you figure this out. You might also want to discuss this with your fiancee who has an equal stake in this as you.
Good luck! George
